Description
Chemical peeling is a procedure that involves a pharmaceutical-grade solution to be applied to the skin, thus removing its top layers and promoting regeneration. Naturally, not all chemical peels offer the same amount of depth and strength.
Chemical peel is a procedure where the pharmaceutical-grade chemical solution is applied to the skin to:
Remove damaged skin cells
Stimulate growth of new skin cells and
Improve the collagen layer in the skin
At Amplecare Health and Aesthetic Clinic, we use a full arsenal of different peel solutions depending on the skin problem being targeted. These include various strengths of alpha hydroxy peels, salicylic peels, and jessner peels. The acidic ingredients in the peel used are from natural sources eg citric acid (from citrus fruits), mandelic acid (from almonds), and kojic acid (from berries),
Pretreatment Instructions
Doctors may advise using an exfoliant and / or depigmenting cream from one to a few weeks prior to the peel.
Light microdermabrasion may be advised before the procedure to allow better effect.
Test patch may be advised during the consultation, especially if your skin type is dark or tanned.
Post Treatment Care
Use sun protection factor, continuing exfoliating or depigmenting cream, barrier creams depending on strength of peel.
You may use makeup if skin shedding is not prominent

Chemical peels can be used for:
Improving the general skin appearance – fresher look
Removing acquired pigmentation – from sunspots to deeper pigment such as melasma and chloasma (mask of pregnancy)
Improving acne scars, and treating mild to moderate acne (blackheads)
Improving fine lines and skin creases.
Procedure usually lasts from 5 to 20 minutes depending on the strength of the peel.
Usually a slight stinging sensation lasts a few minutes: this shows that the peel is actually working.
There should be redness and a feeling of mild soreness and skin tightness shortly afterwards
Some swelling and darkening may occur in the first 24 to 48 hours.
Actual peeling of skin may occur up to 7 days after. This does not always happen, and depends on the kind of peel used.
